Dental implants are a great option for replacing missing teeth as they are fitted directly to the jaw bone - making them exceptionally stable and secure.
The implant itself is a titanium screw that sits below the gum line and holds an abutment, which in turn allows it to be fitted with a false tooth (crown). Together, the implant and crown form a new tooth that both feels and looks like a natural one.
Implants are commonly used to replace individual missing teeth, though they are also effective at replacing several teeth where necessary. One of the major benefits of implants is that they support themselves and don’t rely on the strength of the teeth adjacent to them.
This gives them an advantage over alternative options, such as dental bridges, which are held in position by the neighbouring natural teeth.
"I have been looked after by the practice for many years. Having undergone multiple significant dental treatments prior to joining the practice, my existing bridge had finally come to the end of its life. After a number of consultations discussing the various options open to me, I opted for implants.
A full dental plan was provided outlining all the work to be carried out including timeframes and cost. The work was carried out in a very professional manner, exactly as detailed in the plan and fitted around my busy work schedule.
I am delighted with both the implants and the excellent after-care. Professionalism and service excellence is clearly a top priority for the whole team and this shines through in everything they do."Mr K S

Before any treatment takes place, we carefully assess your individual case, take any necessary x-rays and talk you through your available options. If you decide to go ahead then we will provide you with a bespoke treatment plan.
The treatment itself requires several appointments at the practice. The first step is the fitting of the the implant screw to the jaw bone, providing the stable foundation for the new tooth.
There is then a period of time before the next appointment, allowing the implant and the bone to completely fuse together. Once this has occurred, the implant can be fitted with an abutment, a connector onto which a new crown can be placed.
This completes the procedure, though regular follow-up appointments are advised to monitor progress.
There are a number of options available for replacing missing teeth and the choice of treatment depends on a range of factors, such as the number of teeth that are missing, the general condition of oral health and cost.
Dental bridges and dentures can both be the most appropriate option in certain cases. Dental implants are generally considered the best option though, as they achieve the most natural results, provide the greatest stability and don’t have an impact on neighbouring teeth.
If the treatment is carried out by experts like ours at Eledent Smiles, then dental implants should be almost impossible to notice.
We ensure that the result looks as natural as possible, taking great care to match the shape and colour of the new crown (the visible false tooth fitted on top of the new implant) to the rest of your other teeth.
